When to Register for Kindergarten
Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year opens Jan. 12, 2026. See the bottom of this page for links to instructions about how to register.
Please note: Once your registration documents have been submitted through the process below, please allow 1-2 weeks to receive an email from the school to confirm receipt of your documents. Please note: registrations are not reviewed and processed until March.
Welcome to Kindergarten at Jennie Elliott School
Kindergarten is the start of an exciting adventure for your child. Kindergarten students are curious and eager to learn; the kindergarten program at Jennie Elliott School fosters students in learning experiences where they are engaged, challenged, and supported. Through responsive programming, students’ needs, learning styles, and interests are honoured. We are committed to providing authentic and experiential opportunities for beginning learners to practice and develop the skills for learning and life. All teachers at Jennie Elliott School are dedicated to working towards success for each student through the personalization of learning with the goal of our students becoming capable, competent lifelong learners.
Through exploration, experiential learning experiences, purposeful play and social interaction kindergarten students will:
- develop understanding and skills in early literacy and numeracy
- develop a strong sense of self-esteem
- develop a sense of belonging to the JES community
- develop attitudes and skills for building healthy relationships
- develop positive ways to express their feelings and show respect and care for others
- explore and make sense of their environments
- develop gross and fine motor skills
- explore, create and respond to art, drama and music
- share their interests, ideas and talents with others
- ask questions and share wonderings
- become curious problem solvers
- build confidence and independence as a learner
- see themselves as capable of learning, trying new things, and taking risks
Kindergarten Information Meeting for Parents / Guardians
Parents/guardian please join us on Thursday, February 5 at 6pm in our gymnasium for our Kindergarten Information Meeting. This meeting is an opportunity for parents/guardians to learn more about the kindergarten program at Jennie Elliott, and ask questions you may have about the program or registering your child with us. Please note, this meeting is intended for parents/guardians only. See below for further information about our Kindergarten Orientation that our young kindergarten students-to-be will be invited to attend.
AM/PM Placement Requests
We do our best to honour requests for AM or PM class placement. Requests are not honoured based on first-come, first-served. As is frequently the case, if we have more requests for AM or PM placements, we will engage a draw on May 29th to ensure a fair process and balanced class sizes. After May 29th, any registrations will be placed on a waitlist for a second draw on August 27th.
New Registrations received after June 26
The school is closed over the summer months, we look forward to meeting new students who wish to register at Jennie Elliott for the 2026-27 school year. Any registrations received after June 26, 2026, will be registered when the office re-opens after summer vacation.
Kindergarten Orientation
We look forward to meeting all students registered for the 2026-27 school year at our Kindergarten Orientation on the evening of May 28, 2026 where we will provide tours of the school, see the kindergarten classrooms and meet the teachers. More information about the event will be provided to families in May with confirmed registrations.

To register a student please follow the Registration instructions outlined on the CBE website.
Registration at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools is not determined on a first come, first served basis. Registration and admission to schools in CBE is governed by the Education Act and Administrative Regulation 6090 | Child and Student Registration and Admission.
