Hello Jennie Elliott families!
Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year! I hope everyone had opportunities to do lots of visiting, adventuring and memory-making over the break.
Summer vacation is often a time to put away the alarm clock, stay in your pj's longer than usual, and play with friends all day long. Whether your child is new to Jennie Elliott or one of our students that have been with us for many years already, coming back to school can come with mixed emotions. For some students, they are ready to get back into the school routine and enjoy the new activities their teachers have planned. For others, it can be daunting to get up early each morning for school again, and to lose that freedom to play with friends when they want. Rest-assured, the teachers are eager to meet their new students and help them transition back with care and ease. We are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, respected, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
We look forward to connecting with families again, and hearing all the stories from our students when they return for a new and exciting year together at JES.
Meet the Staff of Jennie Elliott School!
I am pleased to introduce our Staff of Jennie Elliott School for the 2024-2025 school year. Teachers have already been in their classrooms preparing for the return of our students and looking forward to coming back together to start the new year off.
Over the summer, there were a few shifts in our staff as CBE staffing rounds continued throughout July and August. Ms. Wanda Smith has taken a new role within CBE. Wishing her all the best in her new endeavours, and are ever grateful for her dedication to Jennie Elliott this past year! Please read Wanda's farewell letter to families and students.
Dear Jennie Elliott Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I say farewell to you and your children as I take on a new role within the Calgary Board of Education. My time at this remarkable school has been incredibly rewarding, and I will truly miss being a part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
I want to express my deepest gratitude for the support and trust you have extended to me over the past year. Working with your students has been a privilege, and I have cherished every moment spent contributing to their growth and learning.
As I move on to my new role, I carry with me fond memories of our time together. I wish you and your family all the best for the upcoming school year and hope that it is filled with joy, success, and continued growth.
Thank you once again for everything.
Sincerely,
Ms. Smith
I would like to introduce Mrs. Bonnie Caldwell as our new Acting Assistant Principal! We are very fortunate to have Bonnie join our Jennie Elliott family as she brings her wealth of experience to our school community. Please read Bonnie’s hello message to families and students.
Hi Jennie Elliott Families!
My name is Bonnie Caldwell and I am thrilled to be part of the JE School community as acting principal. My belief in a community approach to supporting each student is one that I look forward to building with families and I am most excited to get to know your children as learners and as the exceptional and unique individuals I know they are! I am a recently retired principal with CBE after having taken a bit of time away to work on my doctoral degree. I am also a sessional instructor in Education at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University.
My hope for my time at Jennie Elliot is to continue the great work that Jennie is known to do and alongside Lucene, nurture a warm and welcoming learning environment for staff, students, and families. Please be sure to introduce yourself when our paths cross! I can also be reached at blcaldwell@cbe.ab.ca
With gratitude,
Bonnie
We also bid farewell to Ms. Laureen Beauchamp who has retired from CBE and was one of our long-time Education Assistants with our DHH program. She will be sorely missed by staff, students and families, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication, love and support of our DHH students all these years.
On August 28, all families will receive a welcome and introduction email from their child's teacher. If you have not received an email by 11:00 AM on August 28 at the email address you have provided in your MyCBE account, please contact the main office at jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca with the subject line "teacher email".
Save the Date
On Thursday, September 19 from 4:00-6:30 PM we will have our Meet the Teacher Night and Welcome Back event. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn a bit more about the year ahead, tour the school and more importantly, reconnect with our school community after the summer break. We have ordered food trucks for those who would like to partake, and our School Council will be set up to provide information about the variety of ways you can be involved. More details about this will be shared at a later date.
First Day of School!
August 29 is the first day back for students. On the first day of school, students are asked to go to their grade location in the school field to find their teachers starting at 8:55 AM. Please see the map below for grade locations. Grade numbers and teacher names will be identified with a sign on the fence. We thank you for your cooperation in saying your good-byes outside the school before teachers take their students into class.
