Hello Jennie Elliott Families,
Thank you everyone for your patience as our weekly message was delayed. Mrs. Tahmazian is continuing to be away this week. We would like to welcome Ms. Christine Stiles as our Acting Principal. It you require any assistance you may reach her at cestiles@cbe.ab.ca or feel free to reach out to the school at 403-777-8350.
Volunteer Appreciation – Save The Date
We are so grateful for the time, energy, and care our volunteers have shared with our school community this year. To celebrate all that you do, we are pleased to invite you to a Volunteer Appreciation Tea on:
Thursday, April 30th at 2:00 PM
If you have volunteered in any capacity at Jennie Elliott School - whether on field trips, helping with classroom preparation, supporting School Council events and fundraising, assisting with school needs such as the courtyard or assembling new carts, to name a few - we would like to celebrate you and show our gratitude. Our Division I and Division II choirs will provide our live entertainment, and all our students have prepared special recorded messages to share with you!
This event is a small way for us to say thank you and to recognize the meaningful impact you have had on our students and our school community.
To ensure that we have the appropriate amount of seating, beverages, and goodies, please RSVP here.
Gymnastics
This week was the first of our two-week focus on gymnastics! Students were able to participate in a number of stations within the gym that focused on balance, climbing, beam, vault, and bar. Next week students will apply their skills in our Mission Impossible course!
SDP Highlights
Each week, we will be highlighting the intentional fluency work occurring in our grade groups to help families understand the connection between our school development focus and student skill development. This week we are highlighting our DHH classes who are actively building reading and communication skills in engaging ways:
- DHH 20: Students are listening to modelled reading and practicing important early reading skills like sounding out words and recognizing sight words. They are gaining confidence and starting to try new words on their own.
- DHH 12B: Students are working with decodable texts. After the teacher models fluent reading, they practice independently. Some groups are focusing on retelling stories, while others are building background knowledge to better understand what they read.
- DHH 15A: Students are learning that words can have more than one meaning, helping them improve their vocabulary and understanding in both reading and communication.
- DHH 15B: Students are creating and practicing stories inspired by Eric Carle. They are developing fluency in English or ASL and will share their stories with other classes, building confidence and presentation skills. They are also exploring parts of words (morphemes) to strengthen their vocabulary across subjects.

Please drop off a bottle (preferably wrapped) to the school office during office hours. Please don’t send wine to school with your children, just drop it off with our wonderful staff at the office.
