Hello Jennie Elliott Families,

Our halls and classrooms were full this past week with our ever-popular Student-Led Conferences! I want to take the opportunity to thank our families for making time in your busy schedules to set these moments aside with your children so they can lead you through their learning. Who better to provide you with insight into their growth, abilities and perspectives on their learning than from the expert – your child! As we know, the learning is in the process, not the product, and I heard many students speaking proudly and eloquently as they shared the “why” and the “how” of their learning so far. Well done, Jennie Jaguars! We are so proud of you!

Organizing Classes for Next Year

At the most recent School Council meeting I shared our process for organizing our class cohorts for next year. This is a process that is year-long, and has many iterations until we land on the cohorts on the first day of classes. To give you an idea of all that informs the process, below is a snapshot of our timeline:

Jennie Elliott Classes for Next Year
At the end of April, we will open the Class Cohort Parent Engagement Survey so families can provide insight prior to the class cohorts being drafted.

Understanding Universal Screeners

In the Calgary Board of Education, teachers administer mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments in Kindergarten to Grade 3. This new information brochure, Understanding Universal Screeners, briefly describes our mandatory screeners and helps explain their purpose. This document is available on our CBE  Understanding Assessment and Reporting webpage, along with another important document parents find helpful, How Is My Child Doing In School?

School Engagement Surveys

Thank you to all of our families who have completed our surveys to date.

Survey 1

The School Planning Survey that was extended from February 20 to March 22, has now closed. We received 66 completed responses, and the results will be shared on our website on April 14.

Survey 2

You may have seen our We All Belong at Jennie Elliott survey advertised throughout the building during Student-led Conferences. To better represent and promote the diversity of our students’ unique backgrounds, perspectives and abilities, we are gathering some information from each of our families. We thank you in advance for answering these four very short questions that should take no more than three minutes to complete. This survey will be open until April 19.
