Hello Jennie Elliott families,
We hope everyone found opportunities to play, rest and rejuvenate over the Fall Break. It was certainly an easy transition back with only two days left in the week!
We’d like to take this opportunity to express our very sincere gratitude to Ms. Caldwell for being our Acting Assistant Principal over the past couple of months. We have been so fortunate to have her tremendous expertise at Jennie, and her knack for making everyone feel welcome and cared for. She joined the Jennie Elliott team seamlessly, and we will certainly miss her!
We are also looking forward to having our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Asha Hynes, start on Monday. She will be out and about at drop off and pickup, as well as during School Conferences coming up in a week. Please take the opportunity to welcome her to Jennie Elliott when you see her!
Repeat | Parent Engagement Form
What a fantastic response we have had to our parent information sessions! If you are interested, please complete the Parent Engagement Form at your earliest convenience. You can choose to reply without your contact information if you wish, to keep your response anonymous. We will begin to organize the feedback in December so we can schedule the sessions starting in the new year.
Volunteering at Jennie Elliott
There are many ways for families to get involved at Jennie Elliott. We have an active and connected school community that our School and School Council are always looking to engage in ways that benefit our students. No amount of volunteering or support is too small! Options for volunteering are offered in the Volunteer Opportunities at Jennie Elliott Form with some of the ongoing needs that we have for parent participation. If any of these areas are of interest to you, or if you would like more information about what the volunteering entails, check them off in the form and our School Council Volunteer Coordinator or a school representative will be in touch.
School Conferences
Our School Conferences will be held during the week of November 24th-29th. As we have done in past years, each grade team has scheduled their in-person conferences at various times throughout the week. Conference bookings will be available starting November 18th at 8:00am.
To book, please follow these steps:
- Log in to your myCBE parent account.
- Choose your child’s grade in the “Conference” drop-down menu.
- Read the “Conference Message” in the box to determine when the online or in-person meetings will be held for that grade team.
- Book the time with your teacher based on your online or in-person preference.
Ms. Ling, our Music Teacher, will also be available for in-person or online conferences on Friday. Her bookings will be available through the Conference Manager system starting on Tuesday, November 19th at 8:00.
Highlights from the Music Program & Ms. Ling
“Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart.”
~ Pablo Casals
While “music literacy” connects to the understanding and application of musical concepts, instrumental playing focuses on listening and responding critically to music. These are the two report card stems for Music.
As they continue to develop their instrumental skills, Grade 5 and 6 students experience what it means to engage in “ensemble playing”. Ensemble, which means “together” in French, translates to more than just “playing together” or “in sync”. It requires that students listen to each other attentively and critically, and then respond accordingly by exercising their best musical judgment at all levels, at all times ---- timing, dynamics and balance, articulation ---- so that they come together as a whole to “tell the beautiful and poetic things.” Grade 5 and 6 students have had the opportunity to explore different instrumental techniques to evoke imageries to enhance the listening experience. Grade 5 students are learning instrumental pieces that are written in 3-voice textures while Grade 6 students explore 4-voice textures. This takes students to the next level of challenge and prepares them for learning in the future, such as playing in a band.
