Hello Jennie Elliott families
We had our annual Terry Fox Run this week in support of the Terry Fox Foundation campaign for cancer research. It was a resounding success as usual! Jennie Elliott families have always been huge supporters of this fundraising campaign to give back, and we thank you for your tremendous generosity. This year we far surpassed our goal and have raised $5 920 to date! Donations will continue to be accepted at Jennie Elliott School Run in Support of the Terry Fox Foundation until October 12.
Parent Information Session
Thank you to our Grade 1 team for hosting a parent information session about early literacy development and what it looks like in grade 1, and to all of the parents who came to hear about this information. Parents were provided with excellent strategies that they can also use with their children at home for a few minutes a day, or when the opportunity presents.
Photo Day Volunteers
October 9 is school picture day! Students will have a picture taken with their class and individually. Families will receive copies of the proofs, and the opportunity to purchase prints of the individual photos if they choose. If your child is absent on October 9, no worries, we have a retake day scheduled for November 6.
If you are able to volunteer on October 9 to help with photo day, please add your name to the Sign-Up Genius schedule that our School Council has set up.
Jennie Elliott Spirit Wear – Sales Close October 4
Last chance! Our pop-up shop for school spirit wear is available until midnight October 4. See our Merchandise Page for the link to order.
Student Surveys
Student voice is an important part of our information gathering for our School Development Planning. Along with the informal conversations and anecdotal information we are always engaging in on a day-to-day basis, we run annual surveys that help us understand the needs and thoughts of our students. Please see further information about Grades 2-3 CBE Student Survey and the Grades 4-6 Our School Student Survey.
School Council
Further to the School Council’s message earlier this week, please see the AGM Agenda and 2024-25 Proposed Budget in preparation for the School Council meeting on October 8 at 7pm. All families are invited to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
Jacket Racket
This is usually the time of the year where we start trying on winter clothing to see what still fits. Please hold onto any clean, gently used coats, snow pants, hats and mittens as Jennie Elliott School is looking forward to collecting donations for Calgary's Jacket Racket again this year. Jacket Racket has been providing clean, gently used winter clothing to Calgary children since the 1980’s. While specific dates are still to be finalized and will be communicated through Friday's weekly message, you can expect drop off to be in the latter half of October or early November.
