Hello Jennie Elliott families,
Soon we will be required to submit our 2025-26 school budget, which will include our allocation for staffing. To help us with our planning decisions about how many staff we can keep/hire and class sizes, we need to know how many students will be in attendance next year.
All families of students currently in grade Kindergarten to grade 5 are asked to complete the 2025-26 Student Enrollment Form form by April 14, 2025. You will be asked if your child will be returning to Jennie Elliott next year, or not, or if you are still undecided. Please complete one form per student in your family.
Volunteer Appreciation - Save the Date!
This year, the National Volunteer Week is April 27-May 3. In recognition and appreciation of the tremendous efforts of our volunteers that help us to keep so many great events going, we would like to invite our volunteers to a Volunteer Appreciation on May 1, 2025. Please save the date!
Highlights from the Music Program & Ms. Ling!
Jazz to me is a living music.
It’s a music that since its beginning has expressed
the feelings, the dreams and hopes, of the people.
~ Dexter Gordon
American Saxophonist and Composer
With Grade 5 students composing and performing their own pieces and Grade 6 students exploring jazz music, the music room is buzzing with a different kind of energy!
Playing jazz pieces adapted for the Orff instruments takes ensemble playing to a whole new level for our Grade 6 students. Playing jazz music means listening to each other in a different way and reacting spontaneously ---- it is truly a kind of “living music.” Through this learning experience, students have had the opportunity to learn what it means to “improvise” a melody and develop the dexterity to maneuver their mallets around the bars on the Orff instruments as they think on the spot.
While the Grade 6 students challenge themselves with new instrumental skills, Grade 5 students engaged in the creative process. A few weeks ago, we read a book called Brave Like the Buffalo, which served as the inspiration for the compositions created by the Grade 5 students. These pieces will be showcased at the Grade 5 Learning Celebration.
