Hello Jennie Elliott families,
This week, I had the wonderful opportunity to learn from our Grade 1 students as they presented their research on the natural habitats and basic needs of Alberta animals. Their presentations reflected not only a deep curiosity and understanding of the topic, but also the remarkable growth they've shown in oral fluency - an important focus of our School Development Plan. It was inspiring to see their confidence shine as they proudly shared the research process, fascinating facts, and every thoughtful detail of their creative dioramas. They couldn’t wait to share their learning with their families at their learning celebration on Friday!
Terry Fox Run Celebration!
We are excited to announce that Jennie Elliott School has ranked 18th in the “Top 50 Alberta Terry Fox Fundraisers of 2024” list. We raised over $6000 last Fall, and we should be super proud of this achievement. 2025 marks the 45th Anniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope. Terry inspired a national movement to end cancer, and together, we can finish it. This fall we are hoping to surpass the amount we raised in 2024 and get our school into the top 10 in Alberta! Look for more information about the 2025 Terry Fox run at the beginning of the school year as we encourage families to join in the run and support our students through volunteer efforts.
Presentation About Screen Time Effects
With the support of grant funding by Alberta Education to School Councils, we are excited to host a screening of Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition. This informational docuseries shares how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions for empowering kids to navigate the digital world and find balance. We invite you to see the trailer of the film we will be screening and encourage our school community to attend this thoughtful and timely event, as we work together to navigate screen use and digital well-being for our students.

Reminder: Outstanding Student Fees
We would like to remind families that many student accounts currently have outstanding fees that require payment. These fees are typically school-based and most often related to field trips, which operate on a cost-recovery basis. This means we must cover expenses such as transportation and service provider costs.
Unpaid fees can have a significant impact on the programming we’re able to offer at our school. They may limit our ability to provide important resources such as student technology, art supplies, library books, and other learning materials.
To check your account balance and make a payment, please log in to your MyCBE account. For your convenience, online payment options include both credit and debit. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office. We appreciate your support in ensuring continued access to enriching learning experiences for all students.
Outdoor Learning Space
We have met with three different CBE-approved landscaping companies to begin the initial design process for our outdoor learning space in the front of the school. The possibilities are very exciting for all students to participate in land-based learning and community-building with their classes! Our hope is to have these designs available to share at the June 3rd School Council AGM, to have input from our school community. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our families over the past two years, we expect this project to begin when the students return to school in August so they can be a part of watching the new space develop!
Transportation Registration
A reminder that transportation registration is now open. In a System message sent directly to families earlier this week, please note changes to the walk zones have changed meaning more students may be eligible for bus transportation. Please see the News story on our website for eligibility and registration information. Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
