Hello Jennie Elliott Families,
As we move into the final weeks of the school year, there is a noticeable shift in the energy throughout the building. This time of year often brings a mix of emotions - excitement for summer adventures, pride in accomplishments, anticipation for what lies ahead, and for some, the bittersweet feelings that come with farewells and transitions. It is a season of reflection and celebration as we look back on a year of growth, learning, friendships, and memorable experiences.
Amid these feelings of closure and anticipation, learning continues to be alive and well at Jennie Elliott! Our Grade 4 students enjoyed a field study experience at Fish Creek Provincial Park, Grade 5 students spent time at the Calgary Zoo viewing the experience through both their Science and French studies lenses, Grade 6 students completed their Science Provincial Achievement Test, Grade 3 students participated in the Clay for Kids program, and I had the pleasure of taking the day “off” as Principal David Auld stepped into the role of Principal for the Day! It was wonderful to see the school through a student's eyes and to watch Principal Auld take on the responsibilities of school leadership with enthusiasm and confidence.
Plenty more to come over the next few weeks!
Grade 2 Celebrations of Learning
This week, we were also entertained by the skilled Learning Celebrations of our grade 2 students. Anchored in the science curriculum that highlights water as the source of all life, our Grade 2 Celebration of Learning was a rich, interdisciplinary experience. While the project centered on singing and playing instruments, it also targeted the school-wide goal of developing "fluency." By creatively exploring different ways to articulate the same words, students elevated both their musical and literary expression. Excellent job, grade 2's!
Summer Solstice
On Friday, June 19, our school community will be gathering outside for a whole-school Summer Solstice Celebration. This special event is an opportunity for students and staff to come together to recognize the arrival of summer, connect with the land, and recognize the significance of the Summer Solstice as the longest day of the year.
As this event will take place outdoors, we ask that all students come prepared for the weather. The celebration will proceed rain or shine, so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the forecast,
Outstanding Fees Reminder
This is a friendly reminder that some student accounts currently have outstanding school fees. Many of these fees are associated with field trips and special learning experiences that are provided on a cost-recovery basis, helping to cover expenses such as transportation, admissions, and program providers. For your convenience, payments can be made online through your MyCBE account using a credit or debit card. If you have questions about your account or would like to discuss payment options, please contact the school office. We are happy to assist.
Active and Safe Routes to School Survey
Further to our previous messages, thank you for completing the Follow‑Up Family Travel Survey to help us better understand any changes in student travel patterns and perceptions throughout our year-long project. Your feedback helps us understand how students are traveling to and from school and what may have changed over the year.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey: https://forms.office.com/r/XZ8uLXZabx
