Hello Jennie Elliott Families,

On Tuesday, June 2, we had the School Council and Parent Society Annual General Meeting and were delighted to see so many parents and guardians in attendance. Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us and learn more about the important work of our School Council and Parent Society.

We are especially thrilled by the strong response from parents who stepped forward to volunteer for vacated positions and would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our newly elected and appointed members, as well as deep gratitude to our returning members. Your willingness to contribute your time, energy, and expertise is a testament to the strength of our school community, and we look forward to working together to continue supporting our students and staff.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing members of the School Council, including our executive, Geoff Matthews (President), Dale Henshaw (Treasurer), and Kathy Sushko (Secretary). Their dedication, countless volunteer hours, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in making this another successful year. Through their leadership, fundraising efforts, initiatives, and valuable feedback and consultation, they have helped enhance opportunities for students and strengthened our school community in many meaningful ways.

On behalf of the entire school, thank you to all who have served and to those who will be taking on these important roles next year. We are grateful for your partnership, your commitment to our students, and your continued support of Jennie Elliott School.

Grade 4 & 5 Celebrations of Learning

This week, we were entertained by the incredible Learning Celebrations of our grade 4 and grade 5 students.

Connecting deeply with the land, the Grade 4 Celebration of Learning was a unique, interdisciplinary collaboration between the classroom and music teachers. Students transformed the sights and sounds collected during their Weaselhead field trip - ranging from rushing water and whispering wind to native bird calls - into original musical performances. Following their performance, they shared their Heritage projects with their families back in their classrooms.

While the Grade 4 Celebration of Learning kept our focus close to home on local native lands, the Grade 5 event transported us to far-off destinations. By bringing their Social Studies unit on ancient civilizations to life through art, music, and mythology, the Grade 5 students developed a profound connection to these historical cultures.

Active and Safe Routes to School Survey

Further to our message last week, thank you for completing the Follow‑Up Family Travel Survey to help us better understand any changes in student travel patterns and perceptions throughout our year-long project. Your feedback helps us understand how students are traveling to and from school and what may have changed over the year.

Outdoor Learning Space

We expect to see our landscapers break ground on June 18th  barring no further delays from the weather! Thank you to all of the volunteers that have helped us fill the spots for watering over the summer. We are excited to finally get this project underway and look forward to the transformation of the front green space!
