Hello Jennie Elliott families,

We had an exciting Spring Spirit Week where students showed all kinds of creativity dressing up for the different special days! Students dressed like teachers, teachers dressed like students, students shared their future careers like F1 racers and fashion designers, and of course, friends enjoyed twinning on matching day!

National Indigenous People’s Day & National Indigenous History Month

Our Grade 6 students have had the privilege of participating in a powerful Indigenous dance residency with Knowledge Keeper Jackie Soppitt, or the Cree First Nations and Thundering Nations International Dance Company. Throughout this experience, they have deepened their understanding of Indigenous history and the cultural significance of traditional dance. Through movement, they’ve learned to recognize specific drum beats and respond with corresponding dances, such as the Snake Dance and the Jingle Dance.

We are honoured to welcome Jackie to our upcoming school-wide gathering for National Indigenous People’s Day and National Indigenous History Month on June 20th at 12:00pm. Jackie will be performing traditional dances for us and will guide our Grade 6 students as they showcase the dances they’ve learned.

We warmly invite our families to join us for this special celebration, which will take place outdoors at our circle gathering space.

Lost & Found is Overflowing – Come Claim Your Treasures!

Missing a shoe? Jacket gone AWOL? Water bottle vanished into thin air? Our Lost & Found is bursting at the seams, and your child’s long-lost items might just be in there! Be sure to swing by and take a look before June 27 – after that, all unclaimed items will be bagged up and donated to a local charity.  Help us reunite these lonely items with their rightful homes – they miss you! 🧥🧤🥾

Thank you, School Council!

The final School Council meeting and AGM was held this week, and we’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the families who have stepped into new roles for the upcoming 2025–26 school year, as well as those who have generously dedicated their time and energy to support our school community by leading and reporting on events such as the Cookie Decorating event (Eva Friedly and Robyn Calvert), Fun Lunch (Jenny Harrison), Book Fair (Alicia Dyck), and Teacher Appreciation (Meredith Niewczas).

A special shout-out goes to our incredible core executive team - Geoff Matthews (Chair), Alicia Dyck (Fundraising Coordinator), Brandon Johnson (Treasurer), and Kathy Sushko (Secretary) - for their ongoing commitment and leadership. Your efforts are vital in helping our School Council thrive, and we’re truly grateful for all that you do!

Netball

We’re excited to welcome The Alberta Netball Association to Jennie Elliott next week to teach our grades 2-6 about the game and the skills. It’s a new game for us at JES that we’re looking forward to learning more about!

PlayDay

PlayDay is a day of fun we all look forward to at the end of the school year at Jennie Elliott! Our PlayDay this year will be on June 24th. Each teacher will be reaching out to families through their weekly message to gather volunteers for the station they are setting up. Our theme this year is Oh Canada! so students, staff and volunteers are encouraged to dawn the red and white to show your Canadian pride!

JEPSA

2025 JEPSA CASINO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Jennie Elliott School's Casino event is on October 6 and 7, 2025 at Elbow River Casino. The Casino has raised as much as $80,000 to enhance school resources like residency programs, library books, musical instruments and gym equipment, essential learning resources to support the implementation of the new curriculum for grades K-6, and of course, the exciting new outdoor learning space in the front of the school.

We need around 40 volunteers for three shifts each day, plus alternates. No experience needed; meals and parking are free. Please see the Sign-up Genius link below to sign up to volunteer today, and to learn more about how easy each of the positions are. This is usually a lot of fun to do in groups, so consider getting your friends to sign up at the same time as you!
