Hello Jennie Elliott Families,
This week we took a moment to thank all our wonderful volunteers. It was fantastic to see so many of you join us as we celebrated the time, care, and energy you give to our school community. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to connect, be celebrated, and hear just how much your efforts are appreciated. Thank you for everything you do to support learning and help our school thrive!
Class Cohorts 2026-27
Please see last week’s Weekly Update for more information about the creation of our class cohorts for the 2026-27 school year.
Hats On! For Mental Health
On Wednesday, May 6, students are invited to wear a hat to school to show their support for Hats On! for Mental Health Day. Every year, the Calgary Mental Health Association recognizes Mental Health Week to raise awareness and promote well‑being. Mental Health Week is May 4–10, 2026, and this year’s theme is “Come Together.” Wearing a hat is optional and helps encourage conversations about belonging, connection, and mental health. Thank you for your support.
Screenagers Movies: Cancelled
Due to low registration, we have made the decision to cancel our scheduled Screenagers screening on Monday May 4th. While we were looking forward to this opportunity to come together as a community around an important topic, we will look for future opportunities to offer similar sessions based on interest.
School Council (JESC) Update
It was so nice seeing so many of you yesterday at the volunteer tea, thank you for all you have done this past year. As we communicated to those in attendance, the Jennie Elliott School Council is at a critical point. In order to continue we urgently need more people to help us on Council next year. If we don't fill vacant positions below the Council will not be able to function which will impact being able to offer the school community events, residencies, extra curricular supplies, etc that we have all come to love. If you have wanted to get a little more involved or just simply want to learn more, please either email jennieelliott1962@gmail.com or fill out the form below and someone from Council will reach out to you directly.
Positions we are actively looking to fill are:
- School Council President (facilitate 8 meetings/year, a 30 min pre council meeting 8x/year, general communication with school and council members)
- Treasurer (would love if someone has an accounting background or prior experience in a role like this)
- Casino Chair (next casino is in 2 years but we need someone in this role, would be mentored by current casino chair)
- Members at Large - People who are wanting to attend meetings and be involved (8 meetings per year, looking to have a voice and/or learn more about the school and what is happening on a daily)
Complete this expression of interest form if you would like to consider one of these positions.
Please click here to see our School Council webpage that includes dates for the School Council meetings, the link to the meetings to attend online if you prefer, meeting agendas and meeting minutes.
