Highlights from the Music Program & Ms. Ling
“Music creates order out of chaos:
for rhythm imposes unanimity upon the divergent,
melody imposes continuity upon the disjointed,
and harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
As they continue to explore jazz music, Grade 6 students experience the magic of creating order out of chaos. Through this learning experience, Grade 6 explored the idea of intervals and chords. They noticed that chords are everywhere: chords provide the harmonic support to a musical structure and sometimes, they form the basis of the melodies. When they were learning how to do basic jazz improvisation, they experienced how rhythmic patterns unify a piece of music and how they give style, character and personality to a work.
Grade 5 students are finishing a project called Fantastic Music Machine. They apply what they have learned about rhythm and how to superimpose one rhythmic idea on another to mimic the sound of machinery: popcorn machine, coffee maker, lumber mill, etc. The creation of these works call for imagination and creativity.
Reminder: Outstanding Student Fees
We would like to remind families that many student accounts currently have outstanding fees that require payment. These fees are typically school-based and most often related to field trips, which operate on a cost-recovery basis. This means we must cover expenses such as transportation and service provider costs.
Unpaid fees can have a significant impact on the programming we’re able to offer at our school. They may limit our ability to provide important resources and pay for additional staff.
To check your account balance and make a payment, please log in to your MyCBE account. For your convenience, online payment options include both credit and debit.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office. We appreciate your support in ensuring continued access to enriching learning experiences for all students.
