Hello Jennie Elliott Families,

Spring is in the air at Jennie Elliott and with that comes sunshine and celebrations!  This week was a busy week with TWO celebrations of learning happening at Jennie Elliott. We had the opportunity to see music, movement, and literacy during these performances.

Inspired by books they have read in class, DHH students designed every aspect of their Celebration of Learning performances. From movement to drum patterns, the ideas were generated by DHH students in music class and woven into a cohesive performance. Through this Celebration of Learning, DHH students embrace their unique learning modalities, discovering how to "listen" to music not just with their ears, but with their entire bodies.

The Grade 3 Celebration of Learning was a special collaboration between our classroom and music teachers, designed to let students experience learning both "in" and "through" the arts.  Students applied their knowledge of Alberta's geography to write an original rap about the province's rivers and cities. To celebrate our community's rich cultural diversity, students explored and performed songs honouring various heritage backgrounds.  Students with shared heritages introduced these musical selections, adding a personal connection to the performance.

Volunteers Needed - Outdoor Learning Space Watering

Some of you may have noticed the two new picnic tables recently installed at the front of the school. These are the first pieces of the next phase of our new outdoor learning space, which will continue to take shape over the next few weeks. While the project was delayed due to the extended snow season, we are excited that installation is now expected to be completed by mid-June — yippee!

With the timing of the installation, we will be looking for a few volunteers to help water the new plants over the summer months. If we are able to gather approximately eight volunteers, each person would only need to take responsibility for watering once or twice during their assigned week, taking about a few hours of time. Watering would involve laying out the hose, starting the water, moving the sprinkler once, and turning off the water.

Please click here to indicate your availability to volunteer.

Thank you for your continued support as we see this exciting project come to fruition!
