Hello Jennie Elliott Families,
We have officially reached the end of May, and what a beautiful week it was with summer-like temperatures. Throughout the week, we welcomed many students and families into our building to participate in learning celebrations and to introduce new families to our community during our Kindergarten and DHH Open House. It was wonderful to see our halls alive with people both big and small, engaging in learning activities, making connections, and experiencing the strong sense of community that makes our school such a special place. Opportunities like these remind us of the importance of coming together to celebrate learning, build relationships, and welcome new members!
Grade 1 Celebration of Learning
The Grade 1 Celebration of Learning took place this week, and our students were thrilled to share their learning with their families and the wider school community. This rich, collaborative project between the classroom teachers and our music teacher was inspired by the science curriculum, as students explored how plants, animals, and people adapt to the changing seasons.
Throughout the inquiry, students contributed their own ideas for the poetry, movement, and soundscapes that formed the foundation of the final performance. Following the presentation, families were invited to the Learning Commons, where students proudly showcased their dioramas and shared their research about the animals they had studied.
The event was a wonderful culmination of weeks of learning, creativity, and collaboration. We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, dedication, and confidence our young learners demonstrated as they prepared for and presented their work.
Mount Royal University Elementary Math Contest
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Mount Royal University Elementary Math Contest this year. Jennie Elliott had 19 students from grade 4 to 6 participate. They all did fantastic! We had 8 students receive Certificates of Distinction, meaning they scored in the top 25% off all student participants in Calgary. Well done Jennie Elliott, and many thanks to Ms Adams and Ms. Petsinis for leading our students through this extra-curricular opportunity.
Active and Safe Routes to School Survey
At the beginning of the Active and Safe Routes to School project, we collected baseline data through the Family Travel Survey at Meet the Teacher and Student Travel Survey during the month of September. As part of our continued work, we ask families to complete a short Follow‑Up Family Travel Survey to help us better understand any changes in student travel patterns and perceptions throughout the project. Your feedback helps us understand how students are traveling to and from school and what may have changed over the year.
Please take a few minutes to click here to complete this survey.
Thank you for supporting safer, healthier school travel for all students.
