Hello Jennie Elliott families,

Our grade 2 students had an amazing time with their Arts in Motion dance residency to connect math concepts to dance! They shared their new moves at an entertaining assembly this week for the whole school and the grade 2 families that had the whole gym grooving along with them! As examples, the classes used their data skills to graph beats and movements, and addition skills to track how many body parts they could all get to touch the ground to make 100.  We’re sure to see some of their new creative dance moves at the PlayDay dance party!

Cricket Residency

Our cricket residency with Future Cricket Stars began today and will run through to the end of next week. Each class will get to learn about the game of cricket through their regular gym class periods. We look forward to watching their skills grow over the week and hopefully add another sport they can all enjoy at recesses or at home! Unfortunately, Monday and Tuesday are looking to be rainy next week; however, if the rain pauses for a bit, or is lightly raining, we will send them outside instead of using the gym. Please send your child with appropriate rain gear just in case.

School Council News

You’re Invited! Screenagers Documentary Screening at Jennie Elliott School

Jennie Elliott School is pleased to host a special screening of the updated Screenagers documentary on Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30 PM in the school gym, called Screenagers: Elementary School-Aged Edition.

Originally released in 2016 and shown in schools and community venues across North America, the Screenagers movie sparked important conversations about growing up in the digital age. A new series of the original film has been created to reflect the current research and continue to help parents and educators support kids in developing healthy relationships with technology.

Directed by physician and filmmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston, this one-hour documentary from the series blends real stories with expert insights to address issues that elementary school-aged kids, parents and educators are facing including:

  • The impact of smartwatches and devices in the classroom
  • How to monitor and unhook from video gaming
  • The pressures and realities of social media
  • Early exposure to screens and digital content
  • What current research says about healthy screen time
  • Practical, solution-focused strategies to support families and schools

We encourage our school community to attend this thoughtful and timely event, as we work together to navigate screen use and digital well-being for our students. Thank you to Alberta Education for providing the grant for School Councils to fund this parent education event.
