Hello Jennie Elliott families,

Netball was a hit! Watching the grade 2’s play today, it was impressive to notice how inclusive the game is. It is very similar to basketball, but with a few tweaks to the rules, everybody finds a way to contribute and have fun, no matter their skill level. Thank you to The Alberta Netball Association for bringing their expertise to Jennie, and to School Council fundraising for providing the funds for this experience!

Staffing Updates 2025-26

We are in the final approach to this school year, which is also a time to recognize teaching staff changes for the new year.

We would like to congratulate Ms. Jolene Ottosen, one of our DHH teachers, who has accepted a Strategist position with our CBE Inclusive Education team. We appreciate Ms. Ottosen’s experience and advocation for our students’ learning in our DHH program and wish her well as she moves on to support other DHH students in their community classes in CBE.

We are excited to welcome Ms. Chris Machado as our new DHH teacher. Ms. Machado comes to us from the DHH program at Queen Elizabeth and brings a unique lens as an accomplished educator who has worked with DHH students in a variety of capacities for most of her career.

Additionally, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Claire Bignell who will be joining us as our new Learning Leader and Physical Education & Wellness (PEW) specialist next year. Ms. Bignell brings a wealth of experience as the PEW teacher from Woodbine and will support the further development of our students’ social emotional learning, physical literacy and culture of wellbeing at Jennie Elliott.

We shared earlier at our School Council meeting that the additional full-time PEW position has come as a result of two changes. We have reduced our Kindergarten classes from 4 to 3 due to reduced enrollment as more parents opt for programs offering full-day care with half-day Kindergarten in the area. We will also staff our Resource position at half-time next year instead of full-time. Ms. Catherine Watson, one of our Kindergarten teachers, will be supporting the Resource role while also teaching morning Kindergarten.

There are a few Support Staff positions to settle yet that we can hopefully message before the end of the year, if not at the beginning of next year.

National Indigenous People’s Day & National Indigenous History Month

We are honoured to welcome Knowledge Keeper, Jackie Soppitt to our upcoming school-wide gathering for National Indigenous People’s Day and National Indigenous History Month on June 20th at 12:00pm. Jackie will be performing traditional dances for us and will guide our Grade 6 students as they showcase the dances they’ve learned during their residency with her.

We warmly invite our families to join us for this special celebration, which will take place outdoors at our circle gathering space.

Lost & Found is Overflowing – Come Claim Your Treasures!

Be sure to swing by and take a look before June 27 – after that, all unclaimed items will be bagged up and donated to a local charity.  Help us reunite these lonely items with their rightful homes – they miss you! 🧥🧤🥾

2025 JEPSA CASINO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Jennie Elliott School's Casino event is on October 6 and 7, 2025 at Elbow River Casino. The Casino has raised as much as $80,000 to enhance school resources like residency programs, library books, musical instruments and gym equipment, essential learning resources to support the implementation of the new curriculum for grades K-6, and of course, the exciting new outdoor learning space in the front of the school.

We need around 40 volunteers for three shifts each day, plus alternates. No experience needed; meals and parking are free. Please see the Sign-up Genius link below to sign up to volunteer today, and to learn more about how easy each of the positions are. This is usually a lot of fun to do in groups, so consider getting your friends to sign up at the same time as you!
