Hello Jennie Elliott families!
We welcomed our Grade 6 students back on Friday after an exciting week at Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector! The weather cooperated beautifully, allowing our students to enjoy the full outdoor experience. When I visited them on Thursday evening, the common theme in their conversations was how much they loved trying new adventures, making memories outdoors with their classmates, and how delicious the spaghetti was!
Be sure to check out our Instagram, where our younger Jaguars can take a peek at the outdoor adventures that await them when they reach Grade 6!

Lockdown Practice
On Friday, we conducted our first practice lockdown of the school year. While these drills can feel unsettling for both students and staff, they are an important part of ensuring we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively should an emergency arise that requires us to secure more than 510 students and 50+ adults in our building.
Thank you to our staff for their thoughtful support of students throughout the process, and to our students for following lockdown protocols to help us maintain a safe environment for our entire school community. Our lockdown was one of the smoothest and most successful we have had at Jennie Elliott. This was echoed in the positive feedback we received from the Calgary Police Service, who partner with schools across Calgary to support these important safety practices.
School Picture Day – October 29
Our School Picture Day will take place on Thursday, October 29. We are looking forward to working with a new school photography company this year, Mountain West Studios!
To help the day run smoothly, we require parent volunteers to assist with the process. If you are available to help for either a full-day or half-day shift, and you have completed your Police Clearance as well as the Annual Volunteering Form, please contact our main office at jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca.
In the Spring, Mountain West Studios will also be offering the opportunity to have your family portraits done at the school as a school fundraisier. More info to come about that!
Everyone BOO-longs at JES!
On Friday, October 30, we’re celebrating the wonderful diversity of our school community with “You Do You, BOO!” Day! Students are invited to come dressed in whatever makes them feel happy, confident, and comfortable at school. This might be a favourite costume, a fun accessory, a favourite colour, or cozy clothes. There is no expectation to dress up, buy additional items or prepare anything special. At JES, we value our families’ traditions and recognize that some families celebrate Halloween while others do not. Our shared focus is making sure every student feels welcome, included, and connected to our school community.
It will still be a day of learning, so outfits should allow students to participate comfortably in all activities, including physical education, music, and working at their desks. School appropriate also means no gore or weapons.
Jacket Racket Collection Begins Next Week
In the spirit of building a sense of belonging to our greater community, Jennie Elliott School is excited to be collecting donations of gently used coats, snow pants, hats and mittens for Jacket Racket again this year. Donations will be collected in boxes in the front foyer from October 19 - 23.
Jacket Racket has been providing winter clothing to Calgary children since the 1980’s. Donations are collected, sorted and distributed by a group of dedicated volunteers. The distribution is done through the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
We encourage families who are able to contribute to consider donating winter items that are clean and in good condition. Together, we can help ensure that children in our community have the warm clothing they need. Thank you for your generosity and support of this worthwhile initiative.
Families who feel they might benefit from accessing the Jacket Racket donations, please don't hesitate to reach out to the main office at jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca, or to Ms. Tahmazian at lutahmazian@cbe.ab.ca.

Please see the attached Quilling Club letter for more information about this opportunity for Division II students from Ms. Danchuk.
Put the Safety of All Children First
We understand that drop-off and pick-up times can be hectic, and parents and guardians are often rushing to drop their children off and carry on with their day. Drivers will often park in prohibited areas, such as in front of crosswalks or driveways or blocking school buses. We want to get the word out that the safety of all children should be put above the individual’s convenience. Thank you for supporting this communication to all of our school community members.
