Hello Jennie Elliott families!
One of our favourite events of the year is our Welcome Back and Meet the Teacher evening, which we were so pleased to celebrate yesterday! This special tradition is a wonderful way to bring our school community together, kick off the new year, and give families a glimpse into what their child’s school year will look like.
After trying a few different formats over the past couple of years, we think we’ve found the “just right” schedule! Many families shared that attending by last name helped space things out, gave teachers more time to connect with each family, reduced lineups at the food trucks, and made it easier for families with multiple children at Jennie Elliott to attend at a time that worked best.
Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us on Thursday. We truly value these opportunities to connect. If you haven’t yet had the chance to meet your child’s teacher, please reach out to them to arrange a time before or after school in the coming weeks.
Jennie Elliott School Swag!
We were excited to launch our school store at the Welcome Back and Meet the Teacher night! The school brochure that families received has a QR code to the store, or you can view the store on the school’s Merchandise webpage. The store will be available until October 5th.
Active and Safe Program
Last year, through our student voice surveys, many of our students highlighted that travel to and from school is an area of concern for them. This year, we’ve partnered with Ever Active and the City of Calgary to be part of the Active & Safe Routes to School project. This initiative provides ongoing support to encourage active travel and address traffic concerns around school zones. We will be launching this project in October, with a group of students from grades 2-6 that will lead this work as our Student Change-Makers and ambassadors of the program. As part of this project, we’d love your help! Please take a few minutes to fill out our Family Travel Survey. The results will serve as our baseline data that will help us better understand current travel patterns, while also allowing us to measure and celebrate positive changes over time.
Your input will help make school travel safer and easier for all students. Thank you for sharing your voice and supporting this important work! The survey will be open until October 1st. Click here to access the survey.

Calgary Flames Flag Football Residency
Jennie Elliott students had the chance to participate in the Calgary Flames Classroom Crew Flag Football program this week during their Phys-Ed classes. Throughout the sessions, students engaged in a variety of station work focused on developing foundational flag football skills such as throwing, catching, and flag pulling. Following the skill-building stations, some students had the opportunity to put these foundational skills into action during a mini scrimmage. It was wonderful to see everyone get involved and enjoy this hands-on learning experience. We sincerely thank the Calgary Flames Foundation for bringing this fantastic opportunity to our school!

Message from Ms. Bignell – Phys Ed and Wellness Class
Please ensure your child has proper athletic footwear at school on days they have Phys-Ed class. Crocs, Birkenstocks, sandals, and similar types of footwear are not suitable for Phys-Ed and may prevent your child from participating safely. Students should have running shoes or gym shoes to support safe and active participation in all activities.
Thank you for your support and cooperation!
School Council and Parent Association Updates
The agendas for our School Council and parent Association meetings on September 23rd at 6:30pm in the school’s Learning Commons are now posted on our website. You can also click here to access the meeting online. We hope all of our families can attend to gain up-to-date information about the school and classroom happenings including staff and student enrollment updates, school initiatives for our students’ learning, and new legislation for Education in Alberta.
The Jennie Elliott School Council Casino event is on October 6 and 7, 2025 at Elbow River Casino and we are still in need of 26 volunteers.
