Hello Jennie Elliott families!
We had a very successful start to the new school year! There has been plenty to share about summer adventures, watch happy reunions with old friends, and nurture the beginning of new friendships and relationships with teachers and classmates. And now, after making it through a full five-day week, everyone has certainly earned a restful long weekend!

Introducing Mr. Bullivant
Some of you know Mr. Bullivant as one of our temp teachers at Jennie Elliott the past few years. And now, we get to welcome him as a permanent staff member and our PE teacher since Ms. Joa has transitioned to a new role as a new mama! Please see below for more information about Mr. Bullivant.
Students Who Take the Bus
Attendance is taken prior to students boarding the bus. Therefore, it is critical to notify the office prior to 3:00pm, preferably in the morning, if your child will not be riding the bus home after school. Please notify the office on the Attendance/Bussing Line at 403-777-8350 ext 1 or jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca .
If a student is unaccounted for, we will enact our Missing Child Protocol if we are unable to reach the family to confirm the child’s whereabouts. This can also cause delays in sending the bus on its route until the child’s whereabouts are confirmed. Thank you to all families for your diligence with this important communication.
Absences, Lates and Early Pick Ups
Any changes to your child’s dismissal plan should be emailed to jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca and the classroom teacher, prior to 2:30pm. Teachers are not watching their email throughout the instructional day, so emailing the main office is necessary.
- If your child is going to be absent from school, please notify the office on the Attendance/Bussing Line at 403-777-8350 ext 1or email jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca the same morning or earlier.
- If your child arrives late to school after 8:41am, they must use the main doors and check in at the office before going to class.
- If your child is being picked up early from school, you must meet and sign out your child at the main office.
- We ask parents not to pick your child up from the office after 3:00pm, but to wait instead until the 3:14pm dismissal bell and meet them at their dismissal door. This helps us to have our office staff available and attentive for the safe and smooth dismissal of our students. Teachers are also busy getting students ready for dismissal, so the less interruptions to that routine the better.
Park Smart – A Message From the City of Calgary
School drop-off and pick-up times can create congestion around school entrances. Choosing where and how you park can make a big difference.
To help keep students safe:
- Follow your school's designated pick-up and drop-off procedures.
- Do not double park.
- Keep crosswalks and intersections clear.
- Park at least five metres away from crosswalks.
- Pay attention to Hug & Go zones, loading zones and other posted signs.
- Consider parking a block or two away and walking the rest of the trip.
Children need to be able to see traffic, and drivers need to be able to see them. Illegal parking, blocked sightlines and vehicles stopped in crosswalks put children at risk.
Welcome Back & Meet the Teacher Event
We are looking forward to our Welcome Back and Meet the Teacher event on September 17th. The following schedule provides an opportunity for families to meet their child’s teachers, see the learning spaces, and receive a brief curriculum-based overview of some of the year’s learning.
We are using the same format as last year. Families will be invited to meet the teacher and visit the classroom based on the student’s last name to alleviate crowding in the classrooms. Please also see your classroom teachers’ weekly messages, for further information.

Smart Phones and Watches
Families are reminded that, in alignment with Alberta legislation, personal mobile devices - including cell phones, smartwatches, and similar devices - are not permitted for student use during the school day. This is outlined in the CBE Administrative Regulation 6008 – Student Personal Mobile Devices. This legislation is in place to support student focus, well-being, and a positive learning environment. As a school, we are required to follow and consistently enforce this expectation.
Students who bring a personal device to school must keep it powered off and stored away for the duration of the day, unless specific medical accommodations have been approved by the school. We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing this expectation with your child. Working together helps ensure a calm, focused, and safe learning environment for all students.

Action required | Complete Online Forms by Sep. 14
Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians / independent students are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online.
Demographic Verification - 2026-27 – This required form is an Alberta Education and Childcare requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
Citizenship Information Update - 2026-27 – This form becomes available and is required to complete if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
Annual Authorization - 2026-27 – Combines the following forms:
- School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
- Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
- Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties
- Consent for Student Participation in Annual CBE Surveys – these surveys support school and system planning and help improve programs and supports offered to students
- Parental Opt-In for Notifiable curriculum for students in grades 3 to 9 – written consent of parents prior to providing instructions or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality, gender identity or sexual orientation. Students are unable to participate in this portion of the curriculum unless consent is granted.
In CBE, the forms can be found in SchoolEngage. SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account used to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register to volunteer etc.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, click Create a MyCBE Account on the MyCBE page. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
To complete these forms:
1. sign in to your MyCBE account
2. click on the SchoolEngage icon
3. select the form
4. complete or review and update the form
5. click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
6. repeat steps 3-5 for each form
Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, Sep. 14. These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education and Childcare to confirm student funding.
