Hello Jennie Elliott families,
School Council is buzzing with excitement as plans are underway for school community-building and fundraising events over the coming months! We are always grateful for the continued support and dedication of our parent volunteers that provide fun and enriching opportunities that our students and families look forward to every year.
Please be sure to check out the message from School Council below about volunteers needed for the Book Fair. This is a huge undertaking for our School Council, and a much-anticipated event for our students. If you are able to give your time, even for one shift, they would be very grateful. Thank you to all of the organizers and planners that make these events possible for the students!
School Conferences
On Monday, March 10th at 8:00am, the online School Conference booking system will open for families to book conferences that will take place Thursday, March 20 (daytime for Kindergarten and evening for K-6), as well as Friday, March 21. As messaged earlier to all CBE families, all conferences will be online due to the CUPE 40 strike. You can access the School Conference booking system through your MyCBE portal.
School Planning Engagement
Thank you to the families who joined us at the School Planning Engagement sessions about the school budget, school fees and the school development plan. We appreciated the great conversation, excellent questions and feedback regarding considerations for future planning.
Please view both School Planning presentations shared at the sessionsif you were not able to attend, to provide more information:

We would also like to ask families to complete the short School Planning Survey at the link below to provide us with your perspectives about the information, ask questions or provide input for future planning at Jennie Elliott. The survey will be open until March 21st.

Clubs
Our teachers have been offering various lunch time clubs over the winter months, including quilling club, LEGO club, puzzle club, choir, Rubik’s Cube club, chess club, student leadership and tech club. Next week Ms. Bevilacqua will be starting the gr 6 Dance Club!
Recently, Ms. Davey and Ms. Burge have led the STEM club for grade 2’s and 3’s, that provides a space where students can imagine, build, problem-solve, collaborate, experiment, and learn in a supportive, fun environment. Whether they’re building a marble run, mixing slime, designing a boat that floats, or testing the strength of a spaghetti tower, students are gaining valuable skills that will serve them in all areas of life, and spending their lunch break doing something creative. We can’t wait to see what new and exciting projects our STEM explorers will dive into next!
News From School Council
Thank you to everyone who attended the council meeting online earlier this week. The grade 4 teachers did a great job sharing about their classrooms, daily routines and upcoming field trips. Sounds like a fun rest of the year for the Grade 4 students!
Volunteer Opportunity!
We are in need of a bunch of volunteers for the Book Fair. With over 70 volunteer shift opportunities we would really appreciate any help from parents or grandparents with a valid police clearance. Here is the signup genius:

Book Fair Details
Look in your child’s backpacks for the book fair flyer that went home this week. The school will be full of energy the week of March 17th as the children will have an opportunity to preview and shop the fair!
This year, due to the ongoing strike we will be unable to offer after school shopping hours, so we are inviting all Jennie Elliott families to join us during the day to come and shop the fair. This is a large fundraiser for our school community with a portion of all the sales coming back to the school so we can’t wait to see you there! Here are the hours for the fair this year.
Book Fair Hours:
Monday March 17: 9am - 4 pm
Tuesday March 18: 9am - 4 pm
Wed March 19: 9am - 4 pm
Thursday March 20: 9am - 4 pm
Friday March 21: 9am - 1 pm
(no school on Friday but open for shopping)
If you are coming in during the day to shop at the fair, we ask that you don’t pull your child from class. They will be building their wish lists on Monday and Tuesday with their class and then have an opportunity to shop with their class on Wednesday and Thursday during the day. Please note, if you are sending cash to school with your child, Jennie Elliott is not responsible for monitoring the money. It should be safely secured in your child's backpack until they are ready to shop!
