Welcome back, Jennie Elliott families!

Whether you are new to Jennie Elliott or a returning family, we hope summer gave your family time to explore, relax, and create great memories of road trips, backyard adventures, or slow mornings in pajamas.

The start of school brings a mix of feelings - excitement for new friends and activities, and maybe a few nerves about early mornings and busy days ahead.  That usually goes for both students AND their parents, and that’s completely normal! Our staff is ready to greet every student with warmth and care as we help everyone settle back into the school routine.

At Jennie Elliott, we’re building a year full of learning, experiences, creativity, and connection. We look forward to creating new memories together as we kick off another wonderful year!

Meet the Staff of Jennie Elliott School!

I am pleased to introduce our stellar Jennie Elliott Staff  for the 2025-2026 school year! We have already had a full house of teachers in and out of their classrooms over the past few weeks as they prepare for our students’ return. Schools officially opened today for the new year, so please note teachers will be in start-up staff meetings Wednesday and Friday morning.

On August 29th, all families will receive a welcome and introduction email from their child's teacher. If you have not received an email by 10:00 AM on August 29th at the email address you have provided in your MyCBE account, please contact the main office at jennieelliott@cbe.ab.ca with the subject line "teacher email".

First Day of School!

September 2nd is the first day back for students. On the first day of school, students are asked to go to their grade location in the school field to find their teachers starting at 8:30 AM. Please see the map below for grade locations. Grade numbers and teacher names will be identified with a sign on the fence. We thank you for your cooperation in saying your good-byes outside the school before teachers take their students into class.

School Hours

We'd kindly remind all families that our school hours have changed this year. Please refer to our School Hours webpage for further information on start and end times.  Soft entry means students can enter the building through their assigned door anytime after 8:31 AM.  Instruction begins at 8:41 AM at which time the entry doors are closed and students are expected to enter through the front door to receive a “welcome back” slip at the office before going to their class.

What to Bring To School

  • School supplies: families pay a $40 fee through their MyCBE account, and students are provided with all necessary school supplies from the school
  • Indoor shoes: one pair suitable for the gym that will remain at school
  • Backpack: brought to school daily with enough room to hold a lunch kit, water bottle, extra change of clothes, and a library book
  • pack snacks that are:
    • quick and easy to eat for an energy boost
    • healthy and nutritious
    • minimal in packaging to reduce waste
    • easy for your child to open
  • pack a lunch in a separate container from snack
  • avoid sending food items that contain peanuts or nuts as there are students in the school with severe peanut/nut allergies
  • send a water bottle that is clearly labeled with their name and taken home daily for cleaning and filling
    • students cannot have drinks other than water during instructional time ie. No hot chocolate, juice, pop.
  • ensure students are prepared for the day with a balanced, filling breakfast before arriving at school.
  • please do not send toys, etc. to school with your child.

Entry, Dismissal and Parking

Along with the Lakeview Community Association (LCA), we are excited about the bright and colourful new parking zone that allows for a safer student drop-off and pick-up, on 66th Avenue. This initiative was carried out by the LCA and a dedicated group of volunteers to help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce parking challenges on 30th St and Lindsay Dr. The zone is intended as a “Hug and Go” for a quick drop-off and pick-up, to help keep traffic moving.

Please take the time to read our Safety Within Our Building web page for important information regarding:

  • parking
  • designated entry/exit doors for each grade
  • morning entry
  • Dismissal
  • supervision

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Save the Date

On Thursday, September 18 we will have our annual Meet the Teacher Night and Welcome Back event after school to provide families the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn a bit more about the year ahead, tour the school and connect with other families after the summer break.  We will of course have the ever-popular food trucks for those who would like to partake, and our School Council will be set up to provide information about the variety of ways you can be involved as a parent at Jennie Elliott. More details about this will be shared at a later date.

Weekly School Communication

Each Friday, families will receive an email from their child’s classroom teacher with information about the learning and classroom happenings. A second email will also come from the principal directing families to the Principal’s Weekly Update on the Jennie Elliott Website . Please take the time to view the important information contained in both of these emails to stay up-to-date. Studies have proven for many decades that a parent’s engagement in their child’s learning and school experiences is a high indicator of academic success, so we are committed to doing our part to create that communication bridge for families.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school when you get to tag us back in. Please do come introduce yourselves to us when you see us on the playground.

2025-26 school year...let's go!
